Faculty of Social Sciences

Barbara Müller is currently Associate Professor at the Communication & Media Group at the Behavioural Science Institute at Radboud University Nijmegen, and leader of the Sustainability theme of the Faculty of Social Sciences. Her research line centers around how human/non-human interactions can be improved, and how we can exploit our knowledge from human/human interactions to develop technologies like robots, embodied conversational agents, and chatbots with believable social behavior. In this research line, she mainly focus on the influence of non-verbal behaviors, and how artificial agents can be used to influence meaningful social behavior. Related to this line, in the area of behavior change she is particularly interested in understanding how to avoid and/or sidestep resistance to change, and try to better understand how interactions with artificial agents can be used to lead to long-lasting improvements in ecological sustainability.
